Favoured Gifts for All
This is a work in progress. I need to test and confirm some of these.
I have found that every one responds well to the gift of any flower. The gift of Cherry Blossoms, it seems, pleases them slightly more. In earlier times, I made certain to have unique gifts for every one. Giving flowers each day, however, does raise Heart Levels.
When you first meet a new character with whom friendship actually can be increased, your only option is to ‘Talk’. When you are able to give any gift, especially at the start of the game, give the Cherry Blossoms that you harvest randomly along with Lumber from any Cherry Tree in the Spring Village. I shipped only a single Cherry Blossom. I keep all others for gifts.
I have read unofficial gift guides and what I see are very few ‘favourite gifts’ that are available when you first encounter any eligible man or woman or indeed potential friend. I therefore believe my strategy may be the best initially.
When you do give an item that is a true favourite, you will see a red heart in future on that same item in your inventory or storage box. This is the benefit of giving a true favourite.
Cooked dishes: Alhough you can buy some cooked dishes at various stands and restaurants, you obtain most of your recipes from Wayside Shrines and Frogs (stone statues) in the wilds and dungeons. When you first encounter any new Wayside Shrine, Frog or Save point, make certain you press ‘A’ to interact with it. Doing this activates a Save Point so you will be able to warp to it once you have the power to use warp in the Map Menu.
When you have reached the minimum friendship level that allows you to give gifts, you will see multiple options when you encounter the character. Giving a gift always is the top left, but there will be other choices, including sharing a meal at the teahouse. Every character has an activity he or she actively dislikes. Choosing that one reduces friendship level a little. It will be registered, however, then, on the character’s Profile as something Disliked or Hated.
Suzu is the key to social interactions. You can unlock the option before Murasame’s birthday on the 4th of Spring.
In all other Harvest Moon or Rune Factory games, the verbal response determines the degree to which the character responds positively or negatively. I believe this still holds true, although the verbal response may vary with friendship level here.
Thus, any of the following that are based on internet research may not be true ‘favourites’. I will try to log the gifts over time that elicit unique responses.
I would like to test the gift that is given in return as well to see if that would be a favourite.
Murasame: Onigiri, all types of Onigiri
For Onigiri: Ah, what a superb gift. One of my favourites. Many thanks.
Hates a Visit to the Waterfall
Mauro: All gems, loves Cherry Blossoms
Cuilang: Loves all valuable metals,
likes flowers, Blade Shard, Oil, Olive Oil, Arrowhead
Kurama: Likes all Mochi, all Sandwiches
For Sandwich, most favourite: You went out of your way to bring me a present? Thank you, I’m actually quite fond of this.’
For a liked gift that is a cooked dish: ‘You are skillful indeed if you can craft something like this. I initially mistook it for a store bought version.’ And he often will give a cooked dish in return.
For a Sandwich: You have good taste! I’ll treasure this.
Fubuki: Loves all Salmon dishes, all Meats
For Grilled Salmon: I love your gift already but knowing you put so much thought into this makes it extra special.’
Or: Is this really for me? Thank you! I promise to repay your kindness someday!
(There is a red heart next to this item but response changes with his Level of Friendship)
By raising him to Level 3 got Fubuki’s Pauldron Recipe.
Pilika:
Most favourite: Honey
‘I’ve been looking for one of these! You read me like a book… Thanks, I mean it.’
For Grilled Salmon: for me? Thanks. You always give such nice gifts.
Iroha:
For any flower: A present for me? Aw, you shouldn’t have! I won’t let this go to waste!
Matsuri:
Most Favourite: Hibiscus
‘Yes! That’s the stuff! Exactly what I was looking for!’
Suzu: On her birthday, I did receive a very positive response to my gift while I recorded the event the first time. I thought I was giving Strawverry Milk but when I repeated the event with that gift, her response was not as excited.
Zaza: for favourite like Blade Shard:
‘Nice of you to stop and think about what sorta stuff I appreciate!’
